Smells Like New York, Feels Like New York (Plus, My Summer Bucket List for 2025)
It's so nice to be back (and a look at this year's bucket list)
It's hot and humid as I type this. The temp is expected to spike to 90°F this afternoon, but the humidity makes it feel like that number could easily be doubled.
We returned from Portland earlier this week (I’ll share photos soon), and I can’t begin to explain how great it felt to land at JFK. I love this place.
Like we always do when we get home, we started the morning with bagels before running errands in the neighborhood (drop-offs at UPS, thank yous to the neighbors for watering our plants, stocking up on groceries, etc.).
While walking over to Trader Joe's, a taxi driver veered into the crosswalk. We both stopped and acknowledged that we had the right of way, to which the frustrated driver said "why can't you be the ones to stop for once!" (Obviously this poor guy was going through it!) At this point, a pedestrian behind us also chimed in, so we had a classic three-on-one situation on our hands, each side arguing their case to deaf ears. It felt (so) good to be back.
I love New York this time of year, mugginess and all. The city smells different (for better or worse!) and the energy just can't be beat. I love the leisurely pace of it all (even though I struck out at three cafes this morning before finding one with space to work!), I love the high tourist season (the joy is unmatched!) and the lovely dresses. I anticipate this season eagerly, and now that it's finally here, I am soaking it up (disgruntled taxi driver and all).
Now, on to one of my favorite annual traditions: the summer bucket list. This is not something I take lightly! Will and I work on this list year-round and cull it ruthlessly until we’re left with an eventful summer we can’t wait to dive into. Last year was one for the books, here’s to hoping this year’s list lives up to that.
