Really big storms with 6 inches or more were rare but they did happen. I remember one time when Central Park had about a foot of snow! It was gorgeous! I walked over there and took a whole roll of pictures on a disposable camera. The last picture I asked a stranger to take one of me. I still have that film and never got it developed. You’re actually inspiring me to go find it and send it in. I also remember plenty of smaller one or two inch snowfalls… and snowflakes in the air moments. NYC in the snow is the best.
I will begin by saying how much I enjoy reading your posts. I live in Northern CA (Marin County - other side of the GG from SF). A while back you posted about a job opportunity in CA. I may have missed it, but I never did see what you and your family decided. My daughter and I love to visit NYC and I jokingly (kind of?) tell her I am moving to NYC when she goes away to college 💕
Thank you for the kind words! The California decision is still a daily conversation in our home (great memory!), it's a tough decision because we love NYC so much. As of last week, we're thinking about temporarily relocating to California from April through June before returning to NYC and deciding if we can make do with a one bedroom apartment (and a newborn).
New York's rental market is nuts, makes me think I should write about that too?
Also, I love hearing that you and your daughter both love New York, fingers crossed me and my girl end up in the same boat. For what it's worth, living here has exceeded expectations! Make the move!
What part of CA? We should swap houses lol 😊 I show her your photos every week, we just love seeing how locals live. We are planning a stay in the UWS in Feb. She has only stayed in Midtown and I can’t wait to show her the more neighborhood-y areas ❤️
You know, I'm not opposed to the idea lol! We're working out the details, but we're thinking Santa Barbara and Sacramento, maybe San Francisco, but that one is TBD for June!
For what it's worth, I live on the UWS and LOVE IT! I think it's so cool that you love NYC so much, the feeling is mutual! ☺️
Lovely set of intentions.yes to photography and painting. Et le français! I am a French teacher by day. Off to NYC later this week, worried about the snow/cold! (I’m in coastal California where 67 is cold and 58 is freezing!)
Bonjour, not to worry! The weather is chilly but manageable, a warm parka and quality scarf should do the trick. For shoes, I’ve been wearing my Blundstones to keep my feet warm and dry. We've been taking the baby on daily walks and she’s totally fine with the weather (as long as she’s bundled up). I hope you enjoy your trip, the city feels so calm right now, it’s a great time to visit!
Thank you! I am going to bring my warmest hiking boots, my beautiful new wool coat and a down-esque mid layer. Now, if I can just get out of town with these fires all around!
I used to live in NYC and these pictures of it snowing there are beautiful and bring back sweet memories.
I’ve lived here for six years and snow days feel so rare! Was that the case when you lived here too?

A foot of snow in Central Park? Crossing my fingers for that this year. If you get that film developed, I'd love to see the photo of you in the snow!
And yes, completely agree - NYC in the snow is something else!
I will share it when I get it!

If you decide to make the move, you cannot go wrong with SF or Santa Barbara. ❤️

I heard about the fires! How wild, I can't imagine wildfires are a common occurrence in January, stay safe!
Thank you. Definitely stressful.
